It wasn’t long ago only months in fact that wheel house was just a concept. My roommate Evan Minogue had been storing mass amounts of bikes in the house. The pressure of Los Angeles was building up, and so were the bike parts. He slept with four against his bed. I can’t blame him, each cost about as much as my car. So he took the matter into his own hands. Hired Eric and they began working together to get funding and get the project rolling. A funny memory I have is when Evan was coming up with the shop name. We literally spent two weeks coming up with name after name. What were good names soon turned into anything that we saw. If we passed a crack in the road. “Crack in the road!” someone would shout out. One night we got so frustrated we went to a bar and told ourselves that we would just drink until in came to us. We even had our waitress “beautiful X” (yes this is her name) throwing out ideas. She spoke several different languages. It didn’t help it just made us irritate Evan more with more outrageous names. However after that night we, well I should really say I was banned from throwing out anymore names. Wheelhouse came out. In fact I think it was the 2nd one ever said. I can tell you everyone was happy to know that piece was solved. But now to see how much the place has grown is really profound. Click here for there website (photography by yours truly.) Wheel House. They have really done a lot of hard work.
I decided to do another one. This one was on a 3′x3′ canvas. I’m still working on it a bit, but I need a break for now. But here you have it. Any creative titles? Get wild send them to me. Be good.
So its part acrylic, part pastel. I want to have the hands framing a scenario. Inside the frame will be something beautiful or positive, and outside will be the cropped out elements of reality or negativity. I have been thinking about it all day and I am settling on the thought of having a doe running in the frame of the hands and outside the frame is a Forrest on fire. The doe will be colored in because it is representing the picture that I want to give power. And the Forrest will be sketched with pencils only. If you can think of a better scene please let me know! Again using the cropping something beautiful/positive out of something destructive/negative. I want to title it “creativity is the end to chaos”. Thanks for reading! Be good people.
No? Well I’m guessing I have your attention at least…. Try these ones.
YES! it’s him.
One of the highest paid and my most respected photographer, Terry Richardson. Many of you have probably heard of him working away in the fashion industry. He is known for shockingly explicit photography, as well as using a point and shoot camera! His work is nothing short of fantastic, it has such a youthful energy that just draws people out and into Terry-land. Below is a really great interview he did a while back while shooting for Belvedere vodka. This just goes to show that there are no rules in the realm of creativity. Just do what you love. Be the best at what you do.
Be inspired, or just be good people.

So it might be June bloom right now but in 10 days its officially summer, and my guess is yes the sun will come out. For now S Magazine will do! There is a reason I get so excited when this one shows up in town. It is simply the highest magazine quality of creative photographers bar none. This new copy is one of there best prints. I just bought the last copy at the grove. So you should feel privileged to see these here at JOLLY BE GOOD. As always be good people. I’m off to work.
You should know that this magazine lets the photographers and artists go as wild as they want. So some borderline pornagraphic images and lots of nudity can be expected when purchasing this Mag. However I will say all of it is in good taste and extremely creative. This can only happen thanks to the “no bounds” set by the editors at this S magazine.
I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this site. It might be from twitter? Anyways I copied the link a while back and just found it. I love reading David’s blog. I thought you might enjoy this too. I feel that most creative ideas are on the edge of reality. He often loves to connect people through complete random activities. I picture that this puts a smile on people faces just to think about the ideas. But I think everyone secretly wishes to do these little secret activities on their own. Now you can. Click on more for a couple of my favorites of his, or go to his blog HERE
Anja Van Herle is a friend of mine who is originally from Belgium. She has been such a pleasant person to encounter in the chaos of Los Angeles. After a bit of conversation I got to take a peek at her work which is simply astonishing. She creates these very expressive female portraits which often highlight a sense of fashion. Her process consists of photographing different female subjects that she encounters. Then she uses the picture as a template that she often strays from to bring out her own interpretation of the person to “maintain their enigmatic aura”, as she would say. She has the sweetest accent that will turn your cheeks red. For some reason I always envision that all her portraits have her Belgian accent too.
Its hard to throw $40 bucks at a magazine with out even being able to graze threw it first. However, purple is worth the cash. It makes a great table magazine for parties too. There is still one more copy left at the grove for anyone that is interested. These are almost impossible to order from the publisher without a subscription. Here are a couple samples of Mario Sorrenti’s (click on Photography, then Mario Sorrenti) work in the Mag. The work is very expressive and colorful. In a way it feels very freeing. Be good people.

I’m a huge fan of Spike Jonze! Don’t know him? He is the hillbilly character (Conrad Vig) in the 1999 film Three Kings starring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. Still don’t know.. Click HERE and polish up on your film knowledge. Spike is known for a long list of music videos, including artists like Fatboy Slim, Weezer, and DAFT punk!! Don’t forget the portal on the 7th and 1/2 floor. Yes he also directed Being John Malkovich. His creativity is inspiring, and I love that he often uses Guerrilla filmaking techniques. I also like to use real locations, small crews and often natural light. It keeps you alive and the process fun!
Enjoy his newest skateboarding video (it’s in slow-mo, be patient it’s cool. You can skip the first 45 seconds if need be) and look for his next motion picture, Where the Wild Things Are. Coming soon! Till the next post, be good people.
