My dream board and to do lists…

I used to have one, and just looked at all the things I had on it. I realized I now have all of the things that I put on that board. So I decided to put some bigger dreams on there and look at them everyday.

This is what keeps me motivated on getting work done! The best $30 I have ever spent.

A character study on the subway.

I am fascinated by people. Just watching how people work, and the little amusing things they do. Its why I like photography. You get to freeze those moments for a lifetime. I didn’t really want to sneak a photo of this girl but she was an interesting subject and through the little video I took of her while riding the subway you can see the moments that you can catch if you just wait patiently, while your subject becomes comfortable with you.

My first painting in years and I need your help.

So its part acrylic, part pastel. I want to have the hands framing a scenario. Inside the frame will be something beautiful or positive, and outside will be the cropped out elements of reality or negativity. I have been thinking about it all day and I am settling on the thought of having a doe running in the frame of the hands and outside the frame is a Forrest on fire. The doe will be colored in because it is representing the picture that I want to give power. And the Forrest will be sketched with pencils only. If you can think of a better scene please let me know! Again using the cropping something beautiful/positive out of something destructive/negative. I want to title it “creativity is the end to chaos”. Thanks for reading! Be good people.

Sometimes you have to tear it up…

…and I have been. I got another job working on a documentary film as well as some new shoots! So I apologize for taking so long to make a post. I will try not to give you anymore excuses.

I have a shoot tomorrow at the studio, for a clothing company called Soto. Just picked up the lights, these were a few test shots with my roommate Ilya.

A lesson in framing…and a little fun gaming.

79728547-full

I have recently been getting a lot of photography questions. Mainly tips. One of the most valuable lessons I learned in photography was how to frame. We had one class that all we did was cut out pictures from magazines and put them into different aspect ratios. So we could get an idea of how to frame a photo. Later my first photography teacher told me never to use the zoom. Always move closer or further away. If you zoom you loose the idea of how to frame. Here is an exercise using the video games halo 3 capture function. In the exercise I am demonstrating how to frame, use negative space, diagonals and create interesting images. I was trying to get creative.  Remember there are no rules to photography, but this can be helpful in understanding why your are attracted to certain photos and repelled from others. Be good people.

Summer tribute: Terminator Salvation

Just saw the movie: Terminator Salvation. First let me tell you I love the terminator series, I have seen them all. You will too if you want to enjoy this one. I was skeptical because I had read some really negative reviews so perhaps my walls were let down a little before I went to see the film. But to my surprise I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it lived up to the reputation and would recommend it to others. Below is the beginning of a project I am working on.

I have been playing with the idea of two separate shoots. One with this skull I purchased below using a fashion model to create a sexy mood with the skull. (life and death shoot) but I wanted to give the skull more character instead of just using it as a prop. The second is an art project in which I want to create different paintings over the skull and designs and shoot it over and over till I have 20-50 different designs and pictures to keep in a book or exhibit in a gallery. Thoughts? ideas? let me know:) Till the next post! Be good people.

Popsicles just taste better in the summer sun! I give you the popsicle idea.

I think the process of creating is often more interesting than the final product. Since I am always looking for the creative process in the work of others. I thought I should set the example in my own work.

The object: Creating an image that would capture the essence of JollyBeGood. I also wanted the picture to creatively relate my website to the business cards/promotions I would make in the future. Click on more below for my solution, and even help me to take the idea further. A better idea is always a better idea.
